Japan Part 1: The Heron of Hakone

Updated: Oct 20, 2019

A heron skimming up the waterfalls of Hakone

Here is my first subscription to our project. This is in the national park of Hakone from outside Tokyo.

I have pretty good photos up my sleeve because I already took like 2,000. So I need to delete a few of them. I have so many because the temples in the country are crazy beautiful. I have really loved Kyoto the most. The city I am in right now is pretty grey so I won’t miss it.

So I’m a day late but I haven’t been to bed yet so count it - challenge completed! I couldn’t do the rocks and the water, but I’m going to come back to it as I wish I could! But the heron was definitely challenge enough... I hope you like it!

I love it.

Feathered Friend - Beckie built up the layers, starting with a simple ink layer carving out the shadows and highlights

The finishing touches were made in Derwent Intense watercolour pencil & a black fineliner
